This piece of luggage was in need of revival before it could return to travel. The exterior leather was dull and worn, it was in need of re-edging, but most importantly the lining needed professional attention. Rather than a simple like-for-like replacement, we worked with the owner to improve the lining style and functionality.
The original lining was functional, but the light colour meant it was quick to stain and the structure meant it was hard to clean. To get around this, we worked together to come up with a new solution: a detachable lining. Furthermore, to enhance functionality, we added pockets that were specifically measured to fit laptops and travel essentials.
This comeback needed to be big and bold. The bright fabrics at LA Double J are the perfect way to revive this piece of luggage. We worked together to find the perfect print to book compliment the loved look of this bag and revive it’s appearance.
With the perfect fabric chosen, we got to work in creating a bespoke new lining. First of all, we unpicked the original lining and created a new pattern for the detachable replacement. A zip would be attached to the top panel and another to the top of the lining, so it could be fully removed.
For the highest quality finish, it was important that the pattern on the side pockets aligned with the pattern on the body. We measured, cut, pinned and sewed these with the utmost precision.
After stitching all the elements in place, we added the finishing touches. We re-edged the handles to add strength and protection to the leather. And finally, we conditioned the leather and polished the hardware.
Restored and revived, this piece of luggage was ready for its comeback. Thanks to The Thinking Traveller, it went straight to luxury villa Rocca delle Tre Contrade in Sicily to bask in its new glory. The options of where it will travel next are endless…
